1987 AAU Sullivan Award Winner Jim Abbott continues to win! Recently elected to the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame - Jim Abbott , a Flint native and former Michigan pitcher, won the Sullivan Award as the nation's top amateur in 1987 despite being born without a right hand. Jim was the first baseball player to receive the AAU Sullivan award.

What a wonderful tribute to a great athlete and an exceptional human being. The AAU Sullivan, continuing to reach out into the sporting arena and make its name known.

Past winners of the AAU Sullivan include Bobby Jones who in 1930 became the very first recipient of the award. Other notables in recent years include Jackie Joyner-Kersee (1986), Peyton Manning (1997), and Michelle Kwan (2001) to name a few.

The presentation of the 74th AAU Sullivan Award will take place at the New York Athletic Club, New York City, the evening of the 13th of April, 2004.
