SULLIVAN UPDATE
Monday, April 5, 2004

The AAU is proud to announce that the 1952 AAU Sullivan winner, Horace Ashenfelter, will be in attendence for this year's award presentation.

As an AAU member, Ashenfelter was one of America's premier distance runners during the 1950s, winning 17 national championships at a variety of distances. In 1952, he captured the gold medal in the Olympics for the 3,000-meter steeplechase; the first American to do so since 1904. A FBI agent, Ashenfelter trained for the Olympics at night, using park benches for hurdles. What an accomplishment!
