SULLIVAN UPDATE Wednesday, April 7, 2004

In 1978, swimmer Tracy Caulkins was the recipient of the AAU Sullivan Award for her excellence in the pool. Twenty-five years later, Michael Phelps, one of this year's AAU Sullivan Award Five Finalists, looks to add to the distinguished list of swimmers who have won the award. A look at his achievements tells the story: Michael Phelps (AAU Sullivan Memorial Award Finalist) Became the first swimmer to set 5 world records at one meet at the 2003 FINA World Championships - winning 4 gold medals and two silver. The only man to win five U.S. National titles at the same championships. The first man in history to win a U.S. National title in three different strokes at one national championship. Current world-record holder in the 200m fly, 200m, and 400m individual medley.
